People have been murdering each other for thousands of years, with some having killed hundreds of different persons. Governments started officially counting the number of kills and keeping track of things better from 1900 forwards, which is why in this article, we’ll only talk about serial killers active after this year.

For those that do not know, serial killers are people who have killed three or more people, in two or more separate events over an extended period of time. It is important to note the fact that most serial killers act alone, and kill because of serious psychological reasons. The exact number of kills associated with each serial killer is not always known, especially when authorities have to deal with multiple counts of murder.

Due to the complex nature of serial killers and the way that they manage to hide their victims and keep out of the eyes of law enforcement, keeping track of the number of kills isn’t always an easy job, as multiple aspects have to be kept in mind.
